Intuitive works inspired by rocks, trees, and the land.
About Me. I am a painter and printmaker from Rappahannock County, Virginia. I work out of my home studio in Castleton. I make art mainly for the joy of creative exploration and not to produce works for sale. The majority of my work is done in my sketchbooks. But I usually have some pieces for sale at my studio, which can be visited by appointment. My work is also occasionally exhibited in local galleries or area art shows.
About My Work. My work is best described as abstract or non-representational, typically an expressive celebration of color, shape, and line inspired by rocks, trees, and the Virginia landscape. I work mostly on paper and wood panels in water-soluble mixed media such as watercolor, gouache, and acrylics. I often incorporate printmaking or collage techniques into my work. Whatever I feel will help each piece say what it has to say is fair game for inclusion!
About My Process. I work intuitively, usually starting with some mark-making and a color plan. As the work evolves, I make choices about how to emphasize what I think the painting or print is trying to be about. Sometimes a piece is strong enough to stand on its own; sometimes, it feeds another work.
How to Reach Me. The best way to reach me is by email at carole.pivarnik@gmail.com. Except for this website, I do not use social media anymore. I found it too distracting. In 2025, I will begin writing a blog here on this website. Once the first post is up, you’ll be able to subscribe to get new posts directly in your inbox. Meanwhile, sign up for my mailing list below and I’ll send a notice when that first blog post is published.
